Key Marco Site (8CR48) Contour Maps

A detailed contour map of the site area where we were going to archaeologically investigate was prepared by the members of the Southwest Florida Archaeological Society. The resulting map revealed that although the upper seven feet of the mounds which were originally in this area where leveled to form the current sudivision surface. However, the remaining six or seven feet below the existing site surface was largely intact with some modern historic disturbance near the eastern portion of the site lot. There were also some modern excavations in the western area of the site, near the canal, where pilings had been placed. There was also some filling and leveling of the area between the two mounds located in this area on the original topographic may prepared for the Cushing's excavation in 1896.
