Court of The Pile Dwellers

This is the famous Court of the Pile Dwellers were Frank Cushing recovered the spectacular collection of wooden artifacts. Note the shell benches extending into the muck pond. He thought these to be quays or docks. Also the encircled areas within the grid represent wooden pilings which fell into the pond, hence the name for this area "Court of the Pile Dwellers". He also provided a stratigraphic profile of his excavations which is illustrated just below the outline map.
